Not a Fit Charlotte NC

Honest Advice About When Mobile Mechanic Service May Not Be The Best Option

When Mobile Mechanic Service May Not Be the Right Fit

We believe in being honest about what we can and cannot do. Mobile mechanic service is great for a lot of repairs, but there are situations where a traditional shop is the better choice. This page explains those situations so you can make the right decision for your vehicle.

Situations That Are Not a Fit for Mobile Service

Major engine teardown or rebuild

Removing an engine, rebuilding it and reinstalling it needs an engine hoist, a stand, and a clean indoor workspace. This is shop work. We can diagnose engine problems and handle many engine repairs on site — sensors, belts, gaskets, and bolt-on components — but a full rebuild or removal is not a mobile job.

Transmission removal or rebuild

Dropping a transmission needs a lift and a transmission jack. The weight and the access requirements make this impractical at the roadside or in a driveway. We can handle transmission fluid services, solenoid replacements and external repairs on site. Internal transmission work needs a shop.

Major collision or frame damage

If the vehicle has been in an accident and the frame or unibody is bent, that needs a body shop with a frame machine. We do not do collision repair or frame straightening.

Alignment work

Wheel alignment needs an alignment rack. It cannot be done accurately on the ground. If your vehicle pulls to one side or the steering wheel is off-center, we can check the suspension components that may be causing it, but the alignment itself needs a shop.

Dealership-only warranty or recall work

If your vehicle is under warranty or has an open recall, the dealership must handle that work. Doing it elsewhere can void the warranty coverage. We can tell you if a problem is likely covered so you can take it to the dealer.

Jobs needing a press or specialist machine

Some wheel bearings, bushings and ball joints need a hydraulic press to remove and install. We carry a lot of tools, but a 20-ton press is not one of them. If your repair needs a press, it is a shop job.

Unsafe working conditions

If the vehicle is in a location that is not safe to work in — a busy highway with no shoulder, a steep slope, deep water or mud, or an area with active hazards — we will not put ourselves or you at risk. We will help you arrange a tow to a safe location instead.
